The Romance of the Three Kingdoms Episode 6 – Changban and Zhao Yun

Amid the chaos of the late Han dynasty, Liu Bei is moving south with the civilians while fleeing Cao Cao’s pursuit. However, Cao Cao’s army advances rapidly and presses against Liu Bei’s forces. At Changban, the army and the civilians scatter, and order completely collapses. In this confusion, Liu Bei’s family is left behind in the middle of the enemy lines.

The Battle of Changban and Zhao Yun’s Valor

Zhao Yun rides alone into the enemy lines within the scattered battlefield. He breaks through countless soldiers and carves a path forward. The battlefield is already beyond control, and no one can grasp the overall situation. Even so, Zhao Yun does not retreat and continues forward.

His movement is not merely courage, but a choice with direction. He crosses the battlefield and begins searching for Liu Bei’s family. Even as numerous soldiers close in, he does not waver. At this moment, the battle begins to take on a different meaning through an individual’s decision.

Zhao Yun’s Choice to Protect Liu Bei’s Family

Zhao Yun finally finds Liu Bei’s infant and family. He takes the infant into his arms and prepares to break through the enemy lines again. This choice places responsibility above survival. He is in a situation where he cannot even be certain that he will return alive.

Holding the child, Zhao Yun charges across the battlefield once more. Enemies gather from all directions, and the path is constantly blocked. Yet he does not stop and breaks through to the end. His actions create a different order from the flow of the battlefield.

Responsibility and Loyalty Revealed in Chaos

The battle at Changban is already in a state of chaos where victory and defeat cannot be determined. The army is scattered, and each person moves to survive. In such a situation, Zhao Yun’s choice shows a direction different from the rules of war. He acts not by survival, but by the responsibility entrusted to him.

This action is not merely loyalty, but a response to a relationship. Zhao Yun connects himself to Liu Bei and to the order Liu Bei seeks to uphold. Even in chaos, such a choice creates a standard. That standard becomes the reason it is remembered afterward.
