NEW BOOK SERIES: Human Story Lab in Latin — A 90-Day Journey Through Human Stories and Knowledge
Five volumes and ninety days of Latin learning connect human stories with philosophy, science, history, and the structure of knowledge.
NEW BOOK SERIES: Human Story Lab in Latin — Complete Five-Volume Series
Five volumes, ninety days, and one connected approach to learning Latin through the questions and stories of human experience.
Why Learn Latin Through Human Stories?
A language is more than a collection of words and grammatical rules. It is also a means through which human beings formulate questions, describe experiences, and give structure to their understanding of the world.
Latin has carried philosophical arguments, historical records, scientific ideas, literary narratives, and reflections on human life across centuries. Learning Latin can therefore become more than an exercise in recognizing noun endings and verb forms.
It can also become an opportunity to examine how meaning is constructed through language.
Human Story Lab in Latin begins with this possibility.
The series does not treat stories merely as illustrations added to a grammar lesson. Instead, each lesson begins with a question drawn from a human story. That question becomes the basis for a Latin dialogue, and the dialogue provides the sentences through which grammar and vocabulary are studied.
The purpose is to bring language learning and intellectual inquiry into the same process.
Five Volumes, Five Fields of Inquiry
The complete series consists of five volumes organized into a ninety-day reading journey.
Vol. 1 — How Do Stories Shape Us?
The first volume examines how narratives influence human identity, choices, memory, and understanding. Through literary works and the experiences of their characters, it asks why human beings tell stories and how those stories shape the ways they see themselves and others.
Vol. 2 — What Does Philosophy Teach Us to Ask?
The second volume moves from stories to philosophical inquiry. It explores questions about knowledge, ethics, existence, and the assumptions behind human judgment. Philosophy becomes a practice of examining questions rather than simply collecting answers.
Vol. 3 — How Does Science Explain the World?
The third volume follows the development of scientific understanding. It considers how observation, mathematical reasoning, evidence, and explanation have changed humanity’s view of nature and the universe.
Vol. 4 — What Does the Record Preserve?
The fourth volume turns to history and the human act of recording. It examines the relationship between events, power, memory, and the written accounts through which later generations encounter the past.
Vol. 5 — How Is Knowledge Connected?
The final volume asks how different forms of knowledge relate to one another. Literature, philosophy, science, history, and other fields may develop their own methods and languages, but understanding often requires us to recognize connections without erasing their differences.
The five volumes are distinct in subject, yet they form one continuous inquiry into how human beings interpret the world.
How Does One Day of Learning Work?
Each day begins with a question.
The question identifies the central issue of the lesson, while an illustration and its caption introduce the historical, literary, or intellectual setting.
The lesson then develops through four connected sections.
Human Story Note
The reader first encounters the story behind the question. It may concern a character in literature, a philosopher’s argument, a scientific discovery, or an event preserved in historical records.
This section establishes the context needed to understand why the question matters.
Latin Dialogue
The question then becomes a short exchange in Latin.
Rather than introducing unrelated example sentences, the dialogue develops the ideas presented in the Human Story Note. The language lesson therefore remains connected to the subject being explored.
The Story Grammar Tells
The grammatical explanation returns to the Latin sentences already encountered.
Noun cases, verb forms, sentence structures, and relationships between words are examined as parts of meaningful statements.
Grammar is not separated from the story. It helps explain how the sentences express the ideas introduced earlier.
Vocabulary Notes
The final section examines important words and expressions from the dialogue.
Vocabulary study reinforces the relationship between grammatical form and meaning, allowing the reader to return to the Latin text with a clearer understanding of its structure.
These sections are designed to function together.
A question leads to a story. The story leads to a Latin dialogue. The dialogue becomes the basis for grammar and vocabulary.
The lesson is not a collection of unrelated exercises but a connected sequence of reading and interpretation.
Why Are English and Korean Included Together?
Each volume contains both English and Korean learning sections within the same book.
Readers can encounter the same day's subject, Latin dialogue, grammatical explanation, and vocabulary in either language.
The bilingual structure provides two routes into the same material while preserving the shared Latin text at the center of the learning process.
It also makes the relationship between language and explanation more visible. A Latin sentence can be approached through English or Korean, while its grammatical structure remains the object of study.
The English and Korean sections are not separate books. They belong to a single integrated volume.
What Connects the Ninety Days?
The subjects of the five volumes differ, but the method remains consistent.
Every day begins with a question about something human beings have experienced, imagined, discovered, recorded, or attempted to understand.
The reader encounters that question through a story and then returns to it through Latin.
This structure reflects a broader idea: learning a language and examining the world need not be independent activities.
Grammar provides the means to understand sentences. Stories provide the context in which those sentences become meaningful. Questions provide the reason to continue reading.
Across ninety days, the series moves from individual narratives to philosophical inquiry, scientific explanation, historical memory, and the connections among different fields of knowledge.
The sequence is both a language-learning journey and an exploration of how human understanding develops.
From Knowledge Architecture to Latin Learning
The preceding article, Borges and the Knowledge Machine, considered the difference between access to information and the human ability to understand and judge it.
Human Story Lab in Latin approaches a related problem from another direction.
It asks what happens when learning is organized not around isolated information but around questions, contexts, relationships, and meaning.
A grammatical form can be memorized without understanding the sentence in which it appears. A historical event can be recalled without examining its significance. A philosophical question can be repeated without following the reasoning behind it.
The series attempts to keep these elements connected.
Its educational structure is also a small architecture of knowledge: a question organizes the subject, a story establishes context, dialogue gives the question linguistic form, and grammar and vocabulary make that form intelligible.
The goal is not merely to accumulate Latin words or grammatical rules.
It is to learn how to read, connect, and understand them within the larger field of human experience.
A Complete Five-Volume Series
Human Story Lab in Latin is now complete.
Five volumes bring together ninety days of questions, stories, Latin dialogues, grammatical explanations, and vocabulary study.
Each volume contains both English and Korean learning sections.
The complete series is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.
The ninety-day journey begins with a question about stories and ends with a question about the connections among knowledge.
Between those questions lies the purpose of the series:
To learn Latin while reading the stories through which human beings have tried to understand themselves and their world.
《Human Story Lab in Latin》은 인간의 이야기와 철학, 과학, 역사, 지식의 구조를 연결하는 90일간의 라틴어 학습 시리즈입니다.
《Human Story Lab in Latin》
《Human Story Lab in Latin》
《Human Story Lab in Latin》
