Mahabharata Episode 5 – The Beginning of the Kurukshetra War

The armies of the Pandavas and Kauravas gather at Kurukshetra, and the war begins as both sides commit to battle.

The conflict that had continued for so long finally leads to war. The Pandava and Kaurava families now stand at the moment of their final choice. Negotiation and diplomacy have all failed. Kings and warriors gather to choose the side they will support. Many kingdoms across India become involved in the war. In this way the war of Kurukshetra begins.

The Gathering of Two Armies

On the wide plain of Kurukshetra two great armies stand facing one another. On one side stands the army of the Pandava brothers. On the other side stands the army of the Kaurava brothers. Many kings and warriors join each side of the conflict.

Among these two armies are some of the greatest warriors of the age. The Pandava side includes fighters such as Bhima and Arjuna. The Kaurava side includes experienced commanders such as Bhishma and Drona. Teachers and students, relatives and friends now stand on opposite sides. The war becomes not only a struggle for power but also a conflict within a single family.

Arjuna Before the War

Just before the battle begins, Arjuna looks across the field from his chariot. Before him stand his relatives, teachers, and former companions. He holds his bow in his hands, yet his heart is shaken. The people he must fight are those closest to him.

Arjuna begins to question whether he should continue the war. He speaks of his doubts to Krishna, who drives his chariot. Thinking about the death and destruction the war will bring, he hesitates to fight. This moment becomes one of the most important scenes in the Mahabharata.

The First Day of War

At last the war begins. The horns of battle sound and the two armies start to move. Warriors drive their chariots, horses, and elephants toward one another. The plain of Kurukshetra quickly turns into a vast battlefield.

From the first day many warriors fall in battle. Both armies fight fiercely and suffer heavy losses. The long conflict within the royal family is now written in blood. In this way the war of Kurukshetra begins.

마하바라타 5화 – 쿠루크셰트라 전쟁의 시작

판다바와 카우라바 군대가 쿠루크셰트라에 집결하고 양측이 전투를 선택하며 전쟁이 시작됩니다.

오랫동안 이어져 온 갈등은 결국 전쟁으로 이어집니다. 판다바와 카우라바 두 가문은 이제 마지막 선택의 순간에 서 있습니다. 협상과 외교는 모두 실패했습니다. 왕들과 전사들은 각자의 편에 서기 위해 모여듭니다. 인도의 여러 왕국들이 이 전쟁에 참여하게 됩니다. 이렇게 해서 쿠루크셰트라 전쟁이 시작됩니다.

두 군대의 집결

쿠루크셰트라의 넓은 평원에는 두 개의 거대한 군대가 마주 서게 됩니다. 한쪽에는 판다바 형제들의 군대가 있습니다. 다른 쪽에는 카우라바 형제들의 군대가 서 있습니다. 수많은 왕과 전사들이 각자의 편에 합류합니다.

양쪽 군대에는 당시 인도에서 가장 뛰어난 전사들이 모여 있습니다. 비마와 아르주나 같은 판다바의 전사들뿐 아니라 비슈마와 드로나 같은 노련한 장수들도 전쟁에 참여합니다. 스승과 제자, 친척과 친구가 서로 다른 편에 서게 됩니다. 이 전쟁은 단순한 왕국의 싸움이 아니라 한 가문의 내전이기도 합니다.

전쟁을 앞둔 아르주나

전쟁이 시작되기 직전 아르주나는 자신의 전차 위에서 두 군대를 바라봅니다. 그의 눈앞에는 친척과 스승, 옛 친구들이 서 있습니다. 그는 활을 들고 있지만 마음은 흔들립니다. 자신이 싸워야 할 사람들이 너무나도 가까운 사람들이었기 때문입니다.

아르주나는 전쟁을 계속해야 하는지 깊이 고민합니다. 그는 전차를 모는 크리슈나에게 자신의 마음을 이야기합니다. 전쟁이 가져올 죽음과 파괴를 생각하며 그는 싸움을 망설입니다. 이 순간은 마하바라타 이야기에서 가장 중요한 장면 가운데 하나가 됩니다.

전쟁의 첫날

결국 전쟁은 시작됩니다. 전장의 나팔이 울리고 두 군대가 움직이기 시작합니다. 전사들은 전차와 말, 코끼리를 이끌고 서로를 향해 돌진합니다. 쿠루크셰트라의 평원은 곧 거대한 전장이 됩니다.

전쟁의 첫날부터 많은 전사들이 쓰러집니다. 양쪽 군대는 치열하게 싸우며 큰 피해를 입습니다. 오래된 왕가의 갈등은 이제 피로 쓰인 역사가 됩니다. 쿠루크셰트라 전쟁은 이렇게 시작됩니다.
