Inside the great palace hall of Mithila, a massive divine bow rests at the center of the chamber. Princes and warriors stand around it after failing the trial, while Rama calmly steps forward and lifts the bow before drawing its string. The bow bends under immense force and appears moments away from breaking. Nearby, Sita, King Janaka, and the royal court watch in astonishment as tension fills the hall during the decisive moment that will change the future of both kingdoms.
Ramayana Episode 2 – The Marriage of Sita
Rama arrives in Mithila and enters the trial that will decide who is allowed to marry Princess Sita.
As Rama grew older, stories about him began spreading across many kingdoms. People spoke about his calm character, discipline, and remarkable skill with weapons. Around that time the kingdom of Mithila prepared for an important royal event connected to the marriage of Princess Sita. Kings and warriors from many regions began gathering inside the city because King Janaka had announced a challenge unlike any ordinary contest.
The Test of the Bow
King Janaka declared that Sita’s marriage would be decided through a sacred trial. At the center of the palace hall stood a gigantic bow said to have belonged to the gods. The weapon was treated with deep reverence because its weight and strength were believed to be beyond ordinary human ability. Janaka announced that only the person capable of lifting the bow and drawing its string would become Sita’s husband.
After the announcement, princes and warriors stepped forward one after another to attempt the challenge. Some tried using all their strength simply to move the bow, while others approached it confidently before failing in front of the gathered crowd. No one succeeded. The bow remained unmoved in the center of the hall as if it belonged to another world entirely.
As more challengers failed, the mood inside the palace slowly changed. What first appeared to be a royal ceremony became tense and uncertain. People began whispering that perhaps no human being could complete the trial prepared by King Janaka. The giant bow gradually became more than a weapon. It stood like a symbol of fate waiting for someone capable of changing the future of Mithila.
Rama and Sita
Rama eventually arrived in Mithila together with his brothers. King Janaka welcomed them into the palace, and Rama quietly watched the failed attempts of the other warriors before stepping forward himself. Unlike many of the princes who approached the bow with pride or excitement, Rama moved calmly toward the weapon without displaying emotion.
When Rama placed his hands upon the bow, the atmosphere inside the palace immediately became silent. He lifted the enormous weapon without visible struggle and slowly began pulling the string. The bow bent further and further under the force in his hands while everyone inside the hall watched in complete stillness.
Then suddenly the sacred bow broke apart with a thunderous sound that echoed throughout the palace. Shock spread across the crowd as the impossible challenge ended in a single moment. King Janaka stared at Rama with astonishment after witnessing something no other warrior had been able to achieve.
Sita also watched the moment that would change the direction of her life. Before the gathered court, Janaka declared that Rama would become the husband of Sita. Through the breaking of the bow, the two kingdoms became connected through a new bond.
The Marriage of the Prince
Preparations for the royal wedding quickly filled the city of Mithila. Kings, nobles, priests, and guests gathered to celebrate the union between Rama and Sita. Music and ceremony spread throughout the palace while the city entered days of celebration and festivity.
The marriage represented more than the relationship between two individuals. It created a political and familial alliance between the royal houses of Ayodhya and Mithila. Through the union of Rama and Sita, the relationship between the two kingdoms became stronger and more closely connected.
During the same celebration, Rama’s brothers were also married. The ceremonies created additional bonds between the royal families and strengthened the sense of unity surrounding the event. The streets of Mithila remained filled with music, rituals, and celebration long after the wedding itself had ended.
Yet beneath the joy of the marriage, the story was already moving toward another stage. The peaceful union formed inside Mithila would later face exile, separation, war, and suffering. The marriage therefore becomes not only a moment of happiness, but also the beginning of the long journey that shapes the entire Ramayana.

라마야나 2화 – 시타와의 결혼

라마가 성장하면서 그의 이름은 여러 왕국에 알려지기 시작했습니다. 사람들은 그의 뛰어난 무예뿐 아니라 차분한 성격과 절제된 태도에 대해서도 이야기했습니다. 바로 그 무렵 미틸라 왕국에서는 중요한 왕실 행사가 준비되고 있었습니다. 자나카 왕은 딸 시타의 결혼을 특별한 시험을 통해 결정하겠다고 선언했고, 여러 나라의 왕자들과 전사들이 미틸라로 모여들기 시작했습니다.
활의 시험
자나카 왕이 준비한 시험은 평범한 힘겨루기와는 달랐습니다. 궁전 중앙에는 신들에게서 전해졌다고 알려진 거대한 활이 놓여 있었습니다. 그 활은 너무 무겁고 강력해서 평범한 인간은 움직이는 것조차 어렵다고 여겨졌습니다. 자나카 왕은 오직 이 활을 들어 올리고 활시위를 당길 수 있는 사람만이 시타와 결혼할 수 있다고 선언했습니다.
왕자들과 전사들은 차례로 앞으로 나와 활에 도전했습니다. 어떤 사람은 온 힘을 다해 활을 움직이려 했고, 어떤 사람은 자신감 있게 다가갔다가 사람들 앞에서 실패한 채 물러나야 했습니다. 그러나 누구도 활을 제대로 들어 올리지 못했습니다. 거대한 활은 마치 인간의 힘으로는 움직일 수 없는 물건처럼 궁전 중앙에 그대로 놓여 있었습니다.
시간이 흐를수록 궁전 안의 분위기는 점점 긴장되기 시작했습니다. 처음에는 화려한 결혼 행사처럼 보였던 시험이 점차 누구도 성공할 수 없는 도전처럼 느껴졌기 때문입니다. 사람들은 자나카 왕이 내놓은 시험을 과연 누가 통과할 수 있을지 서로 이야기하기 시작했습니다.
그 거대한 활은 단순한 무기가 아니었습니다. 그것은 시타의 미래와 미틸라 왕국의 운명을 결정하는 상징처럼 궁전 한가운데 놓여 있었습니다.
라마와 시타
라마는 형제들과 함께 미틸라에 도착하게 됩니다. 자나카 왕은 그들을 궁전으로 맞이했고, 라마는 다른 전사들이 실패하는 모습을 조용히 바라보았습니다. 많은 왕자들이 긴장하거나 자만심 속에서 활에 다가갔지만, 라마는 침착한 태도로 앞으로 걸어나왔습니다.
라마가 활에 손을 얹는 순간 궁전 안은 조용해졌습니다. 그는 거대한 활을 무리 없이 들어 올렸고, 천천히 활시위를 당기기 시작했습니다. 사람들은 숨을 죽인 채 활이 점점 강하게 휘어지는 모습을 바라보았습니다.
그리고 곧 엄청난 소리와 함께 활이 부러졌습니다. 거대한 소리는 궁전 전체에 울려 퍼졌고, 사람들은 믿을 수 없다는 표정으로 라마를 바라보았습니다. 자나카 왕 역시 누구도 성공하지 못했던 일을 해낸 라마에게 깊은 인상을 받게 됩니다.
시타 역시 자신의 삶을 바꾸게 될 순간을 바라보고 있었습니다. 자나카 왕은 궁정 사람들 앞에서 라마가 시타의 남편이 될 것이라고 선언했습니다. 활이 부러지는 순간과 함께 두 왕국은 새로운 관계로 연결되기 시작했습니다.
왕자의 결혼
라마와 시타의 결혼식은 미틸라 전체에서 성대하게 준비되었습니다. 왕들과 귀족, 사제들과 손님들이 도시로 모여들었고, 궁전 안에는 음악과 의식, 축제가 이어졌습니다. 결혼식은 이야기 초반 가장 화려하고 평화로운 장면 가운데 하나로 펼쳐졌습니다.
이 결혼은 단순히 두 사람의 만남만을 의미하지 않았습니다. 그것은 아요디야와 미틸라 왕가를 연결하는 새로운 동맹이기도 했습니다. 라마와 시타의 혼인을 통해 두 왕국의 관계는 더욱 가까워지고 강해지기 시작했습니다.
같은 축제 속에서 라마의 형제들 역시 결혼하게 되었습니다. 여러 결혼식이 함께 이어지면서 두 왕실은 더욱 깊은 관계로 연결되었습니다. 미틸라의 거리와 궁전은 오랫동안 음악과 축제로 가득 찼고, 사람들은 새로운 시대가 시작되는 듯한 분위기를 느끼게 되었습니다.
그러나 이 평화로운 순간 뒤에는 이미 또 다른 여정이 기다리고 있었습니다. 미틸라에서 이루어진 행복한 결합은 이후 추방과 분리, 전쟁과 고통을 지나게 됩니다. 그래서 이 결혼은 단순한 축복의 순간이 아니라 라마야나 전체를 움직이게 되는 긴 여정의 시작이 되기도 합니다.
